These augmented reality print ads from Tesco (hat tip TESCO: Augmented Reality Print Ads | Digital Buzz Blog.) are actually pretty awesome. It’s so interesting the amount of advertising which is static due to the medium, despite there being a lot of activity beneath the surface.

Imagine if static ads in print or billboards could be flexible like this: it might be a generic ad for a brand, but AR can update with the latest sales, nearest locations, as Tesco has done, or even with films or TV shows, what the next episode is on an EPG. This could even pull in social data – such as ‘5 of your friends like this brand’.

Looks like a pretty awesome opportunity to me!
