Social Media Skill Up Course

How does it work?
Each week, we deep dive into one topic around social media. You are delivered a lesson right to your inbox, where you receive lessons in a combination of text and videos. To get hands-on each week, there is homework you submit to practise what you’ve learnt, and a weekly group Skype call to ask questions, share your experience (and have a bit of a laugh, too!).
This course is a 6-week semester. As a virtual event, there are weekly group video calls with other students where you learn with, and from, a group of like-minded students who are also looking to level up their social media just like you.
This course has the vibrancy, humour and fun of a live classroom – but from the comfort of your own home.
Why video calls?
As adults, we learn in a very different way to children in a classroom who is lectured by a teachers. We’re intelligent, curious creatures who are always drawing on the experiences around us to learn. And, we all have important experiences to share and can contribute to each others’ learning.
A group call is the core of of our learning where we use active learning – where we reflect on the lessons and the hands-on exercises in a group discussion. On top of this, we have the opportunities for a live q and a session to make sure understand every module and how if applies to your business needs before we move on.
What do the weekly lessons cover?
Each week, the lesson cover the theories, best practise examples or Australian case studies to do with the topic discussed, or hands-on demos. The homework gives to a practical exercise to work on for your business to get hands-on using the skills you’ve just learnt. See the curriculum below.
What do we cover in the video calls?
The video calls are an opportunity for confidential, collaborative, group learning. We share what we’ve been working on each week (both wins and woes), we look at trending news stories to do with social media and we discuss the key learnings around each week’s lesson. A Q and A at the end covers off any other questions you’ve got at the end of the call.
The call uses Zoom, free group video call service similar to Skype.
How much time do I need to commit?
To get the most out of the course, its recommended you attend all calls and complete all homework.
Lessons and homework: the lessons and homework can be done at your own pace at home, anytime in your week. This component should not take more than 1 hour a week.
Group video calls: these calls are once a week at the same time every week. Calls last for 1 hour.

How does each week look?
Each week, you receive a new module to learn right to your inbox in your own time.
You have one week to complete it, submitting homework within 7 days.
At the end of the week, we have a one-hour group video call, where deep dive into the lessons of the week, any questions or activities we might want to complete.

This course is for you if…
Are you a small business owner, or managing social media for a large company and you’re on your own? Are you in charge of making the calls on social media direction, content and reporting, but you’re not sure what you should be doing? You might be a community manager, or in marketing and you’d like a fresh perspective on your social media. If this sounds like you, then come and join the course!
This course is not about
This course isn’t about how to grow your followers to millions overnight. In fact, ‘going viral’ isn’t covered in Rachel’s course because for most businesses, the business problem they are trying to solve is how to connect with their local customers. “Going viral” won’t address that – but authentically connecting with your right customers will. Rachel deep dives into this right in lesson one.
The personal touch
In order to give students personal attention (and everyone can share their stories in the group calls!) these sessions are limited to 6 – 8 students per round.
You run your business every day. You’re a specialist in that. You don’t need to be a specialist in social media. However, having actively run a Facebook page or social media channel for a few months for a business is a prerequisite.
To make the most of this course, you will need:
- A working understanding of Facebook or 1 – 2 social media channels
- A current Facebook business page
- Access to Google Analytics for your website is recommended
This 6-week course gives you personalised attention and supportive group facing the same challenges as you. This course is $500 per person for a limited time.
